Hi There!

My name is Catie and I garden in Chapel Hill, NC. I grow all kinds of veggies (well, only the ones I like). I also raise chickens and a rotating menagerie of mammals along with my husband and whoever else I can convince to help.

I garden because I love food, and I love watching my food grow. I also love not having to buy food. In the same vein, I hate buying things for my garden. It’s my goal to grow what I can with as few purchased inputs as possible. That means not much in the way of fancy soil amendments, tomato cages, compost tumblers, or any other gimmicky bits of plastic that will inevitably end up in a landfill. Ok, I do buy SOME things, but I try to avoid it when I can, and I get better at it every season.

This blog is for anyone who has ever wondered, “Can I grow this without buying that?” or “How can I survive as a human without destroying the Earth?” Here, I will do my best to answer these questions as I go for myself and for you. Don’t worry, there will be delicious food along the way. I promise.
